The 2014 Communitas Award was presented to Stahancyk, Kent & Hook to honor their work with the Wills for Heroes program earlier this year.  The award is given to those who demonstrate a dedication to serving those in need and evolving their business practices to benefit their employees, communities, and environment.

Stahancyk, Kent & Hook embodied these ideals as the sponsors of Central Oregon’s first Wills for Heroes program. After participating at a Wills for Heroes event in Portland, SKH shareholder Brad Miller and associate attorney Mercedes Rhoden-Feely sought to expand access to essential estate planning documents to the veterans and first responders of Central Oregon. Using their expertise in estate planning Brad and Mercedes updated and drafted wills for over 30 local heroes, providing much needed security they and their families need.

Stahancyk, Kent & Hook has earned its reputation as a leader in family law and estate planning by placing its clients and their communities first. The firm believes that for everything it receives from the community, it must give back threefold. Senior Shareholder Jody Stahancyk, the daughter of a WWII Army veteran and spouse to a Korean War Navy veteran, has always made taking care of veterans a top priority at SK&H. The firm currently employs two veterans and one active duty service member: Lisa Zimmerman, Director of Attorney Recruiting and Development, is currently serving overseas with the United States Navy.
