It’s official. Timber Joey to read with SMART! Everyone’s favorite chainsaw-wielding Major League Soccer mascot is going to Crook County.
Joey will be reading to students in conjunction with Oregon literacy initiative Start Making a Reader Today (SMART). Stahancyk Kent & Hook is proud to sponsor the event, held at Crooked River Grade School in Prineville, Oregon, May 29.
Growing up, Timber Joey faced challenges as he was learning to read. He now participates in reading events with SMART to promote the importance of reading, and to encourage young people to read more.
“Kids are inspired by Timber Joey’s love of reading and he makes it fun for everyone,” said Diane Turnbull, SMART area manager for Crook, Deschutes, Grant and Jefferson counties. “Having Timber Joey visit Prineville to talk about the importance of reading is so exciting!”
Ms. Stahancyk secured the winning bid for Timber Joey at SMART’s annual gala and auction in February. Joey was not initially on the auction block — he jumped up and volunteered himself to be auctioned off as a way to help benefit SMART’s programs throughout Oregon.
