Oregon Divorce - Credit Reports
What Is A Credit Report?
A credit report contains financial information about you, and about others with whom you share a joint credit. The information in the credit report will determine your "credit rating", commonly referred to as a "credit scoring." The scoring system aids companies, stores, lending institutions, landlords, and employers in knowing if you are responsible and pay your debts in a timely manner. Many lenders rely on these reports to predict in knowing their potential risk when extending credit or approving a loan.
A credit report begins with standard information about you that includes name, address (current and previous), date of birth, and the name of your spouse or ex-spouse (if applicable). The remaining information focuses on your current/past debt/credit history, employment, marriages and divorces, liens, and bankruptcy information.
Each debt and credit account you have will list a "tradeline," showing when the account was opened, in whose name, the loan amount, outstanding balances, credit limits, and any negative information associated with the account.
It is important to periodically check your credit report to make sure that it is completely accurate. It is not uncommon for errors or derogatory information to appear in your report that is unknown to you until applying for credit.
How Can I Receive A Copy of My Credit Report?
Companies can get finacial information from three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union Corporation. Reports provided by each bureau are not identical. One bureau may report items that are not shown on reports by the other two. This is why we suggest that clients may want to request a credit report from more than one source, just to make sure all credit and debt is accounted for. Credit reports are helpful in the settlement process of a case by verifying all debt and outstanding credit.
You can request your credit report by contacting any of the bureaus listed below, or by ordering directly through our web page. Simply click on the icon of the bureau(s) with wich you wish to place your order. The cost is the same which ever way you choose - less than $15.00 per report.
