GENEALOGY SOCIETY HONORS KILPATRICK WITH DONATION

May 3, 2000, John Day - The Family Law Firm of Stahancyk, Gearing, Rackner & Kent, P.C. made a donation to the Grant County Genealogy Society in honor of Mike Kilpatrick, an attorney in Mt Vernon, for his years of service and community involvement.

The donation includes an antique picture album of Grant County pioneers and their families, letters, and memorabilia dating back to the 1800's. Newspaper articles encompass old stories of interest and obituaries, including articles from the John Day Valley Ranger.

Jody Stahancyk a Prineville native and Portland attorney, found the artifacts of Grant County history on e-bay, an Internet auction house, and was concerned that the community would be deprived of seeing this piece of history. Due to the extremely fragile nature of the collection, the Grant County Genealogy Society is in the process of identifying people, archiving and cataloging the material for public use.

For more information, contact Betty Elliott at 575-0545 or Linda Cook at 575-2757, members of the Grant County Genealogy Society.
