Child Centered Solutions

Child Centered Solutions (CCS) is a non-profit organization founded by Jody Stahancyk in 2006 to help protect the rights of children involved in high-conflict divorce. CCS is the first organization of its kind in Oregon and is on the forefront of the drive to expand the rights of children nationally.

As a family law attorney, Ms. Stahancyk, current President of the CCS Board of Directors, is familiar with the plight of children involved in divorce cases. Often, when a family experiences conflict, the children have no voice in the process. It is an emotionally and financially draining time for any family and children often face traumatic social and psychological effects that impact their future development.

Frequently, judges deciding the fate of these children do not have adequate information regarding the best interests of the child, so they look to appoint an attorney to represent the child. It is a struggle for judges to find pro-bono attorneys to take these cases and Child Centered Solutions fills this void. The attorneys of CCS are appointed by the court to protect these children.

Ms. Stahancyk sees problems in their larger context, and understands that representation alone is not enough to fully address the issue. Thus, Child Centered Solutions also provides professional training for attorneys in the family law field and community education for people, such as parents, psychologists and counselors, who come in contact with children of high conflict family situations.
