In 2006, Stahancyk, Kent & Hook undertook the monumental task of renovating a 3,800 square-foot multi-office complex in Bend that would soon become the new home of our Central Oregon office. Turning a podiatrist’s office, a dentist’s office, and a computing business into a comfortable space for a family law firm took vision and creativity. We hired an in-house contractor so that we could supervise the work internally while working with the community around us. Workers were specifically instructed to dismantle the structures intact so we could donate as much as possible to the non-profit organization Habitat for Humanity. Everything that could be saved, from cabinets and boards to the molding of the floors to the screws in the walls, was meticulously removed and stored. Our goal was to put as little waste in the dumpsters as possible and provide materials that would have otherwise gone to waste to a worthy cause. In this way, SKJ&H was able to give back to the Bend community before they had even finished setting up shop.

After renovating, it was time to furnish our space to make it comfortable for our clients and co-workers. Since we purchased a building from the 1970’s we decided to use the 70’s era as a design concept, keeping in mind that old can be new. In the 1970’s we were worried about sustainability, gas prices and the environment, themes that are still relevant today. The office also takes special care to reflect the origins of the Bend area. It houses framings of what are now vintage posters, record album covers, old photos, stretched fabric (mixed with extraordinary 70’s art) and vintage regional pieces. Even the lights are original fixtures from the 70’s.  Much of our furniture was re-covered with vintage fabric. The carpets are vintage rya rugs and our iron stairway was handcrafted specifically for the space. All in all, we’ve created a cool space, where clients coming to see their divorce attorney can feel comfortable.
